Femuscledar

Does "femuscledar" make sense as a term for noticing that a woman happens to be rather muscular? How do you make that connection or what makes you think, "wow, she is muscular and attractive?"

I haven't posted on this blog in a long time, because I'd like to do more than simply link to photos or videos of hot muscular women and ogle them virtually.1 But, while walking around the city, I've been trying to think about what features tend to make me notice in passing that a woman happens to be both attractive and muscular. Especially because these are connections that the brain makes in a mere instant of a fleeting passing or interaction lasting only a brief moment, sometimes before the conscious brain has processed the images.

Sometimes, it seems obvious. Walking down the street and you see a woman wearing workout clothes, it's likely she is going to be athletic. Her running pants are probably going to make it easy to notice the muscles in her legs and her slim build and sleeveless top may accentuate her impressive lats and how her back is rippling with muscle.

While sitting across from a woman on the subway recently, with a first glance I noticed she was rather attractive. But on doing a double take (and trying not to stare rudely), I noticed that on her arm she was using to hold her book, her bicep was bulging up under her sweater and that the vein on top of the muscle was noticeable through the thin cardigan.

Are some men hardwired to make that connection? Is there a causal connection between those features we are attracted to and those we tend to notice?

1Interestingly, my last post here was exactly one year ago today. I guess my subconscious doesn't like to see a blog sit unused for more than a full year.

Dara Torres

At 41, Dara Torres qualified to swim in another Olympics. A Swimmer of a Certain Age

Dara Torres, who won the first of her nine Olympic medals in 1984, a year before Michael Phelps was born, stripped off her baggy T-shirt and sweat pants, revealing a breathtaking body in a magenta Speedo. She pulled on a cap marked with her initials and prepared to swim. Torres is now 41 and the mother of a 2-year-old daughter, Tessa Grace. She broke her first of three world records in 1982, at 14, and she has retired from swimming and come back three times, her latest effort built on an obsessive attention to her aging body.

Buff bobsledders

While looking through NBC's Olympics website, I came across this video of bobsledders Jean Prahm and Vonetta Flowers working out as they prepare for Torino. The two bobsledders look seriously built compared with host (and beach volleyball Olympian) Kerri Walsh. Who knew that bobsledders were so nicely built?

No K.

Buff Chics is yet another female muscle pay site, wih a nice design and looks to be based in Vancouver, with a corresponding focus on Vancouver-based models. It's a very nice looking site, which includes a blog, and the models are certainly beautiful. However, I do wonder whether there is enough of a market of female muscle fans to sustain the ever-increasing number of pay sites.
