Annika

Annika Sorenstam is looking particularly buff these days:

From the NY Times: Sorenstam Sets Her Sights on a Soren-Slam

A Golf Magazine describes Sorenstam's workout regime: She's ready: "Now, Sorenstam can take just about anything Fusser throws at her, from bench pressing 150 pounds to performing 11 pull-ups with a 25-pound weight around her waist, a feat of which she is especially proud."

And hey, she's single now...

Back on the blog

Yes, it's been a while since I lasted posted here, but it's worth a shot trying to get this blog going again.

This is an interesting article about the standards of women's bodybuilding competitions from Westword magazine: Prime Cut: Success in female bodybuilding is wafer-thin.
Because muscles appear clearer on a depleted body, [Christine Pomponio-Pate] will feel weak from food and water deprivation. "We try to dehydrate ourselves near to death and then hope we don't pass out on stage," she says.

It seems ironic that at the time when they are supposed to be presenting themselves as paragons of fitness and physique, bodybuilders are physically at their weakest. Perhaps bodybuilding (and fitness and figure) competitions will be more appealing to the general public if the women competing were not 20% less muscular, but were instead encouraged to be healthier and less dehydrated.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, Amanda Dunbar's arm looks very impressive in this photo:

Quick Update

In putting together a list of feeds to plug into Bloglines as source material for this blog, two lists are quite useful. Petechons livejournal has a big list of relevant blogs. Transvigor's blogroll is the other key source of material for blogs in this area.
